EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT IN A DIGITAL WORK ENVIRONMENT

Digitalization of work and the process of work environment is a decisive factor in increased long term employee wellbeing and organizational competitiveness (  Preda, Crisan, and Stanica ,2014).

Parry and Stefan (2014) define that digital technology and its sectors plays an important role in both human resource management (HRM), which has an indirect impact on employee life style and organizational behaviors. It focuses on the impact of these changes on HRM in terms of changes in the workforce, especially with respect to the use of technology in conducting HRM activities. According to Weldon (2018), the main challenges to becoming a digital organization are:

  • Lot of discussions pertaining to ownership and control of different processes
  • A change resisting culture
  • Need to know that digitalization not suitable for every part of the business
  • Handling talent gaps also poses challengers for workplace behavior
  • Complex and existing processes may not work under digital environment
  • Creating a digital platform is very difficult task and very costly, because creating a network ecosystem can be time consuming and costly.

Many factors can affect the digital workplaces. Some of these are the lack of thought leadership or stakeholder involvement with in the organization, the inability to guarantee that the digitalization happening in workplace initiative is in line with the company strategy and/or company vision, worker resistance to change and a clear or definable return on investment (Melissa Gwaldiis, 2019).Furthermore you can eliminate these restrictions  and increase the adoption rate across your workplace n using the following process (Melissa Gwaldiis,2019).

  • Find how employees work and how digital workplaces can support their different roles
  • Decide which skills needed to support workplace transformation and identify gaps
  • Realize Internal champions, change leaders and define required roles of responsibilities
  • Improve and communicate yours cooperate vision and digital workplace strategy to define milestone for digital workplace initiatives
  • Empower employees to implement the company’s vision and strategy through cultural change and design thinking
  • Choose the correct technologies, tools and services to the organization
  • Apply a monitoring solution to ensure that everything is doing what you intended and identify opportunities to improve performance and reduce cost
  • Develop appropriate development/development strategies and integrate technology as needed
  • Execute correct type of change management
  • Report the digital organizational success across the company/organization
